This is a modest and brilliant Vietnamese restaurant
with a California-style emphasis on freshness. There
are warm taro root chips; pliant summer rolls filled
with pork and shrimp or tofu, each with its own dipping
sauce; pounded shrimp draped over fresh sugarcane and
broiled; salads with grilled flank steak or jackfruit
or chicken. There are Pho soups, banana leaf steamed
fish, and a tofu entree so perfect the most committed
skeptics will never be able to malign that substance
again. Vegans and carnivores are equally feted here.
